Emergency Lighting Inspections can be carried out in your commercial building by EMC Electrical Group should you be located in Bristol, South Wales or the Southwest. We’ll ensure their functionality should a power outage occur and that you are fully compliant with the relevant standards.
Back to topIf you are the person responsible for a commercial building, either yourself, a designated “competent person” or EMC Electrical Group can carry out the flick tests. You will be required to use a dedicated test switch also referred to as a “fish key” to simulate a power outage which brings on the emergency lighting. You’ll then be able to visually confirm that they have come on immediately and adequately. A log of your results should then be made along with any malfunctions noted.
The Emergency Lighting Inspections are where the emergency lighting circuit is isolated from the mains power supply and the emergency lighting is activated. All lights will need to remain illuminated for three hours. EMC Electrical Group will monitor the light output ensuring it meets the required standards and check the battery’s voltage and condition. Again we’ll then provide a detail record of our test results and any issues we encounter.
Back to topMonthly flick tests to ensure the lights will come on in an emergency is simply a brief switch off of the power in order to activate the emergency lighting ensuring all are illuminated.
Annual Emergency Lighting Inspections is where EMC Electrical Group will turn off your main power supply and run all the emergency lighting on battery power for the recommended amount of time to ensure their functionality should your business suffer a power outage.
Back to topEMC Electrical Group will maintain detailed records of all their monthly/ yearly testing to show the dates they are carried out, our findings and any required remedial works. Back to topEmergency lighting is critical for your commercial premises ensuring occupants can safely evacuate in the case of an emergency. All Emergency Lighting Inspections must adhere to British Standard BS 5266 as it is a legal requirement. This provides guidelines and regulations for installing, maintaining and testing the system and clearly states only a qualified electrician should conduct the testing. The purpose of the standards is to ensure the lighting works in the event of an emergency, to help people leave to building safely and to help them also stay in a building during an emergency.
Back to topAny faults identified during Emergency Lighting Inspections can include anything from faulty batteries and malfunctioning light fixtures to inadequate illumination levels to non-compliant emergency lighting systems. These findings will result in necessary repairs or replacements that should be carried out as a matter of priority.
